In Soriana, Social Responsibility requires a sensitive and conscious work attitude towards our society’s problems, which leads us to adopt habits, strategies and processes that help minimize the impact we can generate to the environment and our society.
During 2018, we strengthened our sustainability strategy by aligning our lines of action and activities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) promoted by the United Nations, we aim to mitigate the environmental impact of our operations, as well as contribute to local and national sustainable development.
In recent years we have developed programs and actions in favor of the environment that involve our customers, suppliers, the community and collaborators.
The "Re-sí-cla" program is currently operating in 35 stores in Monterrey, Nuevo León and its metropolitan area, with the goal to provide our customers place to deposit paper, aluminum and PET plastic in the specialized containers. All proceeds go to Hogar de la Misericordia, A.B.P.
As a result of our stores operations, products such as cardboard, PET plastic and wood (among others) are generated, and all are recycled and reused.
Innovative de Mexico congratulates Soriana for contributing to the preservation of the environment by recycling 78,600 tons of cardboard and 4,022 tons of plastic waste in 2020:

In Soriana we offer our customers a way to help the environment with the use of reusable bags, avoiding the use of plastic bags.
We have Reusable Bags of different sizes and materials such as Jute, considered one of the main fibers of the future, its combustion does not generate toxic gases and is 100% biodegradable.
Since 2009, additives have been implemented in our bags to accelerate the degradation process and reduce the life span of conventional plastics.
Pollution has motivated Soriana to develop our own supply of renewable power for our stores. We managed to supply our stores with 54% of clean energy due to our wind farms.
In Soriana the use of technologies to reduce the environmental impact of fossil fuel consumption is a priority and therefore the following actions have been implemented:
- Installation of control and monitoring equipment for air conditioning and lighting systems in all of our stores.
- The installation of more efficient A/C equipment. In 2017, we continued with the program to install air conditioning equipment with increased efficiency in 39 stores.
- Change to LED lighting on the sales floor. During 2017, we have changed the lighting equipment with a new, more efficient LED technology system in 7 stores saving of over 40% in electrical energy consumption.
